Guide to the Necromancer Class

Masters of death, Necromancers can call upon corpses to serve as undead thralls and weave ghastly spells to both harm and heal. (ESO's character creation text)

Shrouded in mystery and practiced in secret, necromancers manipulate souls to raise the dead and empower their spells. (Developer Deep Dive - Necromancer Class)

Always remember, using many of the necromancer's skills in public (i.e. in a city) will cause you a bounty as necromancy is illegal throughout Tamriel!

The class skill lines of the Necromancer are Grave Lord (damage), Bone Tyrant (tanking), & Living Death (healing).



It should be noted that values shown below reflect the ability and/or morph once it is fully trained which sometimes differs from earlier costs, durations, or damage values. All costs and damage values here are without attribute points placed, without equipment, without passive skills acquired or active skills slotted and without champion points spent to make it easier to compare skills regardless of gear/build differences.

Since Mundus buffs can be changed but not removed, either no mundus buff was in place (template character on PTS) or the Lover mundus (which only alters penetration) was used.

Remember that if a skill costs Magicka, it scales with your maximum Magicka (and Spell Damage) while if a skill costs Stamina, it scales with your maximum Stamina (and Weapon Damage). Ultimate abilities and Synergies scale with the combination that provides you with the best offensive stats.




Grave Lord Skill Line

Morph Option 1 Venom Skull Converts to a Stamina ability with 763 Poison Damage. Also, while slotted, casting any Necromancer ability while in combat will count toward the third cast. 2295 Stamina
Morph Option 2 Ricochet Skull
(radius: 8 meters)
Now deals 763 Flame Damage. Also, every third cast will bounce up to 2 times to other nearby enemies. 2700 Magicka
4 Blastbones
(range: 28 meters;
radius: 6 meters)
|warning: Criminal Act| Summon a flaming skeleton after 2.5 seconds. The skeleton chases down the target then explodes for 1232 Flame Damage to all nearby enemies. 2700 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Blighted Blastbones Converts to a Stamina ability with 1273 Disease Damage. Also afflicts enemies hit with Major Defile for 4 seconds. 2295 Stamina
Morph Option 2 Stalking Blastbones Every second the skeleton spends chasing its target now increases the damage of the explosion by 10%, up to a maximum of 50% more damage. 2700 Magicka
8 Reusable Parts When your Blastbones, Skeletal Mage, or Spirit Mender dies, the cost of your next Blastbones, Skeletal Mage, or Spirit Mender is reduced by 12%. Passive
12 Frozen Colossus
(range: 28 meters;
radius: 8 meters)
|warning: Criminal Act| Unleash a colossus which smashes the ground 3 times over 3 seconds. Each smash deals 985 Frost Damage to nearby enemies and afflicts those hit with Major Vulnerability for 3 seconds. 225 Ultimate
Morph Option 1 Pestilent Colossus The first smash now deals 1018 Disease Damage, the second now deals 1120 Disease Damage, and the third now deals 1222 Disease Damage. 225 Ultimate
Morph Option 2 Glacial Colossus The final smash also Stuns all enemies hit for 4 seconds. 225 Ultimate
14 Death Knell Each Grave Lord ability slotted increases your Critical Strike Chance against enemies under 25% Health by 5%. Passive
18 Reusable Parts II When your Blastbones, Skeletal Mage, or Spirit Mender dies, the cost of your next Blastbones, Skeletal Mage, or Spirit Mender is reduced by 25%. Passive
20 Boneyard
(range: 28 meters;
radius: 6 meters)
Choose a target location at which to desecrate the ground, causing 2244 Frost Damage over 10 seconds to enemies within (plus 20% more if the cast consumes a corpse).

An ally within the graveyard can activate the Grave Robber synergy which deals 1193 Frost Damage to nearby enemies while healing for the damage done.
3510 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Unnerving Boneyard Now deals 2321 Frost Damage over 10 seconds. Also afflicts those hit with Major Breach and Major Fracture. 3510 Magicka
Morph Option 2 Avid Boneyard Now deals 2321 Frost Damage over 10 seconds. Also, you can now use your own Grave Robber synergy. 3510 Magicka
22 Dismember While a Grave Lord ability is active, your Spell Penetration and Physical Penetration are increased by 750. Passive
27 Death Knell II Each Grave Lord ability slotted increases your Critical Strike Chance against enemies under 25% Health by 10%. Passive
30 Skeletal Mage |warning: Criminal Act| Unearth a skeletal mage to fight by your side for 16 seconds. Every 2 seconds the mage attacks the closest enemy with 245 Shock Damage. A corpse is left behind when the mage terminates. 2430 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Skeletal Archer Converts to a Stamina ability with 254 Physical Damage. Also, each time the archer deals damage its next attack will do 10% more damage than the previous attack. 2065 Stamina
Morph Option 2 Skeletal Arcanist
(radius: 4 meters)
Now deals 254 Shock Damage to not only the target but also other nearby enemies. 2430 Magicka
36 Dismember II While a Grave Lord ability is active, your Spell Penetration and Physical Penetration are increased by 1500. Passive
39 Rapid Rot Increases your damage done with Damage over Time effects by 5%. Passive
42 Shocking Siphon
(range: 28 meters;
radius: 5 meters)
While slotted your damage done is increased by 3%.

Violently drain the last spark of life from a corpse, dealing 2160 Shock Damage over 12 seconds to all enemies near the corpse and between you & the corpse.
3240 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Detonating Siphon Converts to a Stamina ability with 2196 Disease Damage over 12 seconds. Also, if the siphon lasts its full duration the corpse now explodes, dealing an additional 636 Disease Damage to all nearby enemies. 2754 Stamina
Morph Option 2 Mystic Siphon Siphoning also restores 2844 Magicka over 12 seconds. 3240 Magicka
50 Rapid Rot II Increases your damage done with Damage over Time effects by 10%. Passive



Bone Tyrant Skill Line

Deal 615 Magic Damage in a forward cone and heal for 1311 Health for the first enemy hit, and an additional 437 for each additional enemy hit, up to 5 times. (the heal scales off your Max Health) 3240 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Ruinous Scythe Converts to a Stamina ability with 636 Physical Damage. Every 3rd cast now also sets enemies hit Off Balance. 2754 Stamina
Morph Option 2 Hungry Scythe After dealing damage you also heal for 174 Health every second for 5 seconds (scaling off Max Health). 3240 Magicka
4 Bone Armor Wrap yourself in hardened bone to gain Major Resolve & Major Ward for 17 seconds. When the effect completes it creates a corpse. 2700 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Beckoning Armor The duration increases to 20 seconds. In addition, while active, enemies that strike you with ranged attacks will be pulled toward you once every 3 seconds. 2700 Magicka
Morph Option 2 Summoner's Armor The duration increases to 20 seconds. In addition, while active, the costs of Blastbones, Skeletal Mage, and Spirit Mender are reduced by 12%. 2700 Magicka
8 Death Gleaning If a Bone Tyrant ability is slotted, the death of an enemy you are in combat with who dies within 28 meters of you restores 100 Magicka and 100 Stamina. Passive
12 Bone Goliath Transformation |warning: Criminal Act| Become a Bone Goliath, increasing Max Health by 30000 for 20 seconds and immediately restoring 30000 Health.

While transformed, Light Attacks restore 174 Health and fully charged Heavy Attacks restore 437 Health. This ability scales off your Max Health.
250 Ultimate
Morph Option 1 Pummeling Goliath Also, your bash attacks can hit multiple targets in front of you and deal 0 Physical Damage (tooltip must be in error; everyone on the forums is calling this overpowered?). 250 Ultimate
Morph Option 2 Ravenous Goliath In addition you deal 451 damage to nearby enemies every second and heal for that amount. 250 Ultimate
14 Disdain Harm While you have a Bone Tyrant ability active, your damage taken from Damage over Time ablities is reduced by 5%. Passive
18 Death Gleaning II If a Bone Tyrant ability is slotted, the death of an enemy you are in combat with who dies within 28 meters of you restores 200 Magicka and 200 Stamina. Passive
20 Bitter Harvest
(radius: 12 meters)
Sap the last bits of life from fresh corpses. Each corpse grants you 2 Ultimate and also heals you 324 Health each second for 2 seconds. (scales off Max Health)

While slotted, your damage taken is reduced by 3%.

Morph Option 1 Deaden Pain Now heals 335 Health every second for 2 seconds per corpse and while the heal effect is active upon you, you also gain Major Protection. none
Morph Option 2 Necrotic Potency Each corpse heals 335 Health every second for 2 seconds and the Ultimate gain increases to 6 Ultimate per corpse. none
22 Health Avarice Each Bone Tyrant ability slotted increases your Healing Received by 1%. Passive
27 Disdain Harm II While you have a Bone Tyrant ability active, your damage taken from Damage over Time ablities is reduced by 10%. Passive
30 Bone Totem
(radius: 6 meters)
Raise a bone totem to grant Minor Protection to you & neaby allies for 8 seconds. After 2 seconds the totem also fills enemies with Fear for 4 seconds. 4050 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Remote Totem
(range: 28 meters)
Cast instead at a target location up to 28 meters away. The Minor Protection now lasts 9.5 seconds. 4050 Magicka
Morph Option 2 Agony Totem The Minor Protection now lasts 9.5 seconds.

Allies can cast the Pure Agony synergy, dealing 150 Magic Damage over 5 seconds and applying Minor Vulnerability to the Feared enemies for the duration.

36 Health Avarice II Each Bone Tyrant ability slotted increases your Healing Received by 2%. Passive
39 Last Gasp Increase your Max Health by 625. Passive
42 Grave Grasp
(AoE: 18 x 5 meters)
Three patches of skeletal claws rise from the ground to cause your enemies to be Snared by 50% and also cause them Minor Maim, both for 5 seconds. 3780 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Ghostly Embrace Each patch can also immobilize one enemy for 4 seconds. 3780 Magicka
Morph Option 2 Empowering Grasp Reduces the ability's cost. Also if the claws hit you or your allies then they gain Empower for 5 seconds. Also if the claws hit your Skeletal Mage or Spirit Mender then they increase their damage or healing by 40% for 5 seconds. 3510 Magicka
50 Last Gasp II Increase your Max Health by 1250. Passive



Living Death Skill Line

1 Render Flesh

Your self-sacrifice heals you or an ally in front of you for 1232 Health while you suffer Minor Defile for 4 seconds. 4320 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Resistant Flesh Your target also gains Spell and Physical Restistance equal to half the amount healed for 3 seconds. 4320 Magicka
Morph Option 2 Blood Sacrifice If it consumes a corpse near you when cast, a second target also heals. 4320 Magicka
4 Expunge Remove up to 2 negative effects from yourself.

While slotted, all your abilities cost 3% less.
1940 Health
Morph Option 1 Expunge and Modify Also restores 515 Magicka and 515 Stamina for each negative effect removed. 1940 Health
Morph Option 2 Hexproof Reduces the cost and also now removes up to 4 negative effects from yourself instead of 2. 1880 Health
8 Curative Curse While suffering a negative effect, your healing done is increased by 4%. Passive
12 Reanimate
(range: 28 meters;
radius: 12 meters)
Bring your allies back from the brink of death, resurrecting up to 3 allies at the target location. 335 Ultimate
Morph Option 1 Renewing Animation Each ally resurrected restores 5000 Magicka & 5000 Stamina. 335 Ultimate
Morph Option 2 Animate Blastbones You also consume up to 3 other corpses in the area and summon a Blastbones for each corpse consumed. 335 Ultimate
14 Near-Death Experiance While a Living Death ability is slotted, your Critical Strike Chance with all healing abilities is increased by up to 10% in proportion to the severity of the target's wounds. Passive
18 Curative Curse II While suffering a negative effect, your healing done is increased by 8%. Passive
20 Life amid Death
(range: 28 meters;
radius: 8 meters)
Heal you & your allies within the AoE for 821 Health. If a corpse is consumed by the cast then you & your allies in the area continue to heal for 795 Health over 5 seconds. 3510 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Renewing Undeath Heal you & your allies within the AoE for 849 Health. Consuming a corpse on cast also immediately removes up to 3 negative effects in addition to continuing to heal you & your allies for 820 Health over 5 seconds. 3510 Magicka
Morph Option 2 Enduring Undeath You can now consume up to 5 additional corpses on cast, with each corpse extending the duration of the heal over time by 5 seconds. 3510 Magicka
22 Corpse Consumption Using an ability on a corpse generates 5 Ultimate. (cooldown: 16 seconds) Passive
27 Near-Death Experience II While a Living Death ability is slotted, your Critical Strike Chance with all healing abilities is increased by up to 20% in proportion to the severity of the target's wounds. Passive
30 Spirit Mender |warning: Criminal Act| Conjure a ghostly spirit to stay by your side for 16 seconds. The spirit heals you or the lowest health ally around you every 2 seconds for 245 Health. The spirit then collapses into a corpse. 2430 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Spirit Guardian The spirit now heals 254 Health every 2 seconds for 16 seconds. Also, while active the spirit acts as a shield, taking 10% of your incoming damage in your stead. 2430 Magicka
Morph Option 2 Intensive Mender The spirit now only lasts for 8 seconds, but instead heals 739 Health to you or the lowest health ally around you every 2 seconds during those 8 seconds. 2430 Magicka
36 Corpse Consumption II Using an ability on a corpse generates 10 Ultimate. (cooldown: 16 seconds) Passive
39 Undead Confederate While your Blastbones, Skeletal Mage, or Spirit Mender is active, your Magicka Recovery and Stamina Recovery are increased by 100. Passive
42 Restoring Tether

Take the last bits of life from a corpse, to heal you & allies between you & the corpse for 2160 Health over 12 seconds.

While slotted, your healing done is increased by 3%.
3240 Magicka
Morph Option 1 Braided Tether
(radius: 5 meters)
The base heal is increased to 2268 Health over 12 seconds and now also encompasses all enemies around you as well. 3240 Magicka
Morph Option 2 Mortal Coil The siphon also restores 2844 Stamina over 12 seconds. 3240 Magicka
50 Undead Confederate II While your Blastbones, Skeletal Mage, or Spirit Mender is active, your Magicka Recovery and Stamina Recovery are increased by 200. Passive
